MP delighted by designation
Local MP, Mark Pritchard, and local wildlife campaigners, are celebrating today after Priorslee Lake was officially designated a "Wildlife Site" within the County of Shropshire by Shropshire Wildlife Trust.
The move comes following a call made earlier this year by the Wrekin MP, who expressed "grave concern" about the impact of proposals to develop around the lakeside.
He called for Priorslee Lake to become a designated county wildlife site, which Shropshire Wildlife Trust have now agreed.
Mr Pritchard who is Secretary of the All Party Parliamentary Wildlife and Conservation Group says that over one hundred and fifty bird species can be found on the lake at various times throughout the year and that rare birds, such as the Pectoral Sandpiper and Purple Heron, have also visited the lake. MP says he remains concerned about the potential for over-development of the lake, which he claims could put bird species at risk , and now hopes that:
"the new County Wildlife Site designation will give the lake and its wildlife enhanced legal protection".
