This Labour government does not understand farming or the needs of rural and semi-rural communities in Shropshire.
I have been engaged in the fight against the family farm tax since it was announced in the 2024 Autumn Budget. It is a tax which threatens the survival of family farms and the health of Shropshire’s important rural economy. It also undermines efforts to achieve greater self-sufficiency in food production and increase the nation’s food security.
In the midst of a cost-of-living crisis, rising unemployment and taxes increasing to record levels, it is hard to fathom why the government is seeking to waste Parliamentary time on trying to ban trail hunting. The government should instead prioritise cutting taxes on rural businesses and supporting rural communities.
