Wrekin MP, Mark Pritchard, has blasted the Borough of Telford & Wrekin's Labour leadership accusing them of "weaponising" the NHS.

Mr Pritchard's comments after local Labour Councillors said the Shrewsbury & Telford Hospitals Trust were planning to close the A&E at the Princess Royal Hospital overnight.

Mr Pritchard said:
“I would fight any overnight closures, but there are none planned. Labour's local leadership caused great alarm to patients and staff last September when they again said the A&E would close overnight. Nothing of the sort happened. This scaremongering has got to stop. There will be future changes to hospital services because of the difficulty in recruiting experienced consultants - not because of a shortage of funding. Some of these changes will have advantages. The recommendation accepted by the hospital Board was a legal contingency, which local Councillors tried to stir up into a political and ill-informed frenzy.”
